Heritage is something we all like in our watches, Re-makes of classic watches are trending and a lot of Swiss watchmakers pay a tribute to European watchmaking History with their beautiful remakes. Chinese Watchmakers are also well known for recreating classic watches, for example, the Seagull 1963 is a tribute to one of the first watches made for the Chinese army. Seagull also produced the first watch that was completely manufactured inside the People’s Republic, the DongFeng in 1961.
But the First wristwatch in China was launched by the Beijing brand in 1958, it's this classic style what you reoccur in all watches made in in the 60s, the 27 Diamonds and the Hard steel made this timepiece strong and reliable. It was an extremely luxurious item back then, China was suffering from the policy of Mao Zedong and in 1959 the Great Chinese Famine started where millions of people starved from famine. In those dark and depressing days, it's even more impressive that 12 watchmakers were able to created the Beijing Prototype watch in a small factory outside Beijing. as a tribute to the first watch made in China, the Beijing Watch Factory decided to make a re-make of the prototype watch.
Military Watches were created with purpose and functionality in mind, the Beijing Airforce PIlot watch is no exception, this watch is a Re-make of the original Beijing Pilot fighters watch used in the 70s. its comes with a big case of 41 cm, so u could read the time even flying 400 mph upside down. It runs on an original Beijing Automatic movement. For accuracy, seconds and minutes it runs smooth, and it pays a beautiful tribute to Chinese watchmaking.
